New Addition to WSOP: Bracelet Ceremony

Posted by: James Carter. - Wed, 2009-05-13 08:03

A WSOP bracelet speaks volumes, and if you receive one, it's a sign of prestige, pride, and achievement. However, in this year's World Series of Poker, winners won't simply be receiving a bracelet, they'll be awarded it in a Bracelet Ceremony.

The idea behind the new addition is to officially honour the winners and to create a reality in which their win is recognised. Of course many of the events are won late into the night, and especially with the preliminary and smaller buy-in events, don't necessarily get the attention that they deserve. The ceremonies are being introduced in order to rectify this situation and thus, will take place on a daily basis, at 2.20 PM in the Amazon Room, where winners from the previous day's tournaments will come and be awarded their bracelets in a 5 minute long ceremony, not dissimilar to what one sees at the Olympic Games.

The timing of the ceremony allows it to get premium attention as it will be taking place as participants in tournaments starting at noon will be returning from their first break. WSOP Commissioner, Jeffrey Pollack commented on the subject:

Essentially, we are going to take the bracelets which in some instances have been awarded under the cover of darkness by whoever happened to be around at two in the morning, and bring them into the spotlight where they truly belong.

It will in fact be Pollack who will be presenting the bracelets to the winners. Following the presentation of the bracelet the national anthem for the winner's country will be played. The bracelets themselves, as has been the case in the previous 2 years will be produced by Corum the Swiss watch manufacturer.

what a wonderful idea, every bracelet should be celebrated - this is well over due and a welcome addition to the series.
