New Jersey Aiming to Become Internet Gaming Hotspot

Although New Jersey was hardly mentioned during the recent talks between the Governors of Nevada and Delaware regarding the setting up of an inter-state compact, the Garden City doesn’t plan to rely solely on its own flimsy
online poker/gambling market either. In fact, it may already be ahead of the other two states in this respect, because lawmakers have recently approved a measure which could easily turn Atlantic City into an inter-state hub of online gambling. The bill which has recently cleared the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee, would allow special locations needed to host internet gaming hardware and software to be set up within the limits of Atlantic City, rather than within only the casinos. The bill would put the state in a position to offer its services to other states running their online gambling from the Atlantic City hub.
The effort is a double-pronged one. While the above said bill will now head to the Senate, an identical law is already in the works in an Assembly Committee.
According to state Sen. Jim Whelan, many of the brick and mortar gambling operators simply do not have the space and the tools required to host internet gambling equipment on their premises. The New Jersey bill would allow these operators to set up their online side of the business in Atlantic City and thus to fully develop online gaming the way they could never afford to do otherwise.
According to New Jersey Assemblyman John Amodeo, the possible impact of the bill is truly huge. Amodeo envisioned a situation in which all the online gambling west of the Mississippi would be handled by Nevada, while everything east of it would come together in Atlantic City.
New Jersey is set to “soft-launch” its online gaming on November 21, with the full launch planned for November 26.
