New Jersey Internet Gaming License Fever Peaks

Ever since it became obvious that New Jersey would join the first handful of US states to legalize online gambling and online poker, it was only a matter of time till a genuine gold-rush like chase to pick up a Garden State license would develop.
Indeed, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, no fewer than 37 companies have already applied for a license which would allow them to break into the state’s freshly legalized and regulated online gambling market later this year.
According to Division Director David Rebuck, despite the passing of Monday’s deadline, state regulators view the current batch of applicants as the first wave of a much larger rush, which is expected to continue for a long time.
Rebuck also said that the passing of the July 29 deadline wouldn’t prevent anyone from submitting a license application in the future. The names of the companies which applied for the licenses and are currently awaiting consideration from state regulators have not been made public, but there’s already quite a bit of jostling going on in the matter of online partnerships. Of the 12 Atlantic City casinos, 10 are already partnered up with online gaming providers, looking to carve out as big a share of the future online gambling market as possible.

Interestingly enough, the Atlantic Club Casino, the operator that was about to strike up a partnership with PokerStars, is still without an online backer. The other partner-less operator is Revel, an operator fraught with bankruptcy issues.
Ultimate Gaming, 888 Holdings and bwin.party have all secured their future presence in New Jersey.
Having been shunned by the Atlantic Club, PokerStars have teamed up with Resorts Casino Club. Britain’s 2UP Gaming is set on entering the market as well, so much so that it may actually resort to building a land based operator in case it cannot strike up an advantageous deal with one of the existing casinos.
