Event #22 was the event which featured the biggest buy-in in the FTOPS. Players had to pay out no less than $2,500+$120 to participate, a buy-in which is far above and beyond what your average online poker player could ever afford. As they say though, the tough only get going when the going gets tough, and there was positively nothing average about the 942 players who decided they wanted a part of the prize pool the 2-day long event would distribute amongst those who made the money.
Notable names to make the money were Tom West (in 16th), Luke Vrabel (in 15th), and Erich Kollman in 10th. Tony G, (yes, THAT Tony G) made the final table and eventually finished 6th to take down a $106k prize.
There were 9 final table participants, amongst whom triathlon4 held the chip lead, followed up close by hAAydon in second and Tony G himself in third. The other finalists were BootySmooth, sebbau, theMightyZep, yeshaya, Clockwyze, and knickadam55 who held the short-stack. Clockwyze was the first to fall. Feeling the pressure of the short-stack,he pushed all-in with his A,3 but ran right into BootySmooth's Q,Q.
Tony G delivered a huge hit to yeshaya next, which didn't yet bust him, but set him up for the finishing blow that eventually came from BootySmooth who flopped a full house against yeshaya's A,4.
TheMightyZep left for the rail next, 'aided' by hAAydon's K,Q, which got the better of his 8,8 thanks to a K which fell on the river.
Knickadam55, the initial short-stack, gradually chipped his way up, locking horns with Tony G himself on a pair of 10s against Tony G's As,9s. The Ace that could've helped Gouga didn't come, and thus he finished in 6th. BootySmooth ended up in 5th, and Sebbau finished 4th. The final three fought valiantly for more than 200 hands, and a deal was eventually reached. In direct proportion with the chip count at the time the deal was made, hAAydon got $380k, knickadam55 took home $370k, and triathlon 4 settled for $350k.
