Day 1B of the APT Macau sees great player turnout

Day 1B of the APT Macau saw no fewer than 154 players belly up to the tables. The field included some rather respect-commanding names like John Juanda and Huck Seed. Mike McDonald and Tony Dunst were also among the participants. Mel Judah was the most famous Australian player at the tables.

Apparently all the big names busted out early though. Terrence Chan was one of the first people to head to the rail. He found himself on the short end of a perfect hand as he shoved all in against Julian Powel on a pocket hand of Jc,10c. He did make his flush, but to his dismay, come showdown, Powel flipped over Jc,Qc to make a higher flush.

Huck Seed and John Juanda fell victims to early attrition too. Julian Powel was pretty much an unstoppable force in the early stages of the tourney. After the break, Grant Levy took up right where Powel had left off. He first took down a pot when he flopped trips, then got Kenny Tran into a check-raise trap which made the latter fold, and landed Levy a nice handful of chips. He did take quite a nasty hit later on, but recovered to finish high up on the chip leader-board at the end of the day.

Joel Dodds got eliminated by Michael Peddley, when the latter hit a 2-outer on the river to send him to the rail. Dodds moved to trap Peddly holding a pair of Ks, but the latter hit just he card he needed on the river (a J).

Tony Dunst went on an elimination spree near the end of the day. He first knocked a few people out on solid hands, then had his 10,10 hold up against a player’s Ad,Kd. Mike McDonald would also be sent to the rail before the day was over. J.J. Liu was at fault for his demise as she called his all-in with her A,Q on a flop of 2,Q,3. Mike’s Ah, Kh was left gasping for air, and as a 9 landed on the turn followed by another Q, his fate was sealed.
At day’s end, Ryan Gentry ended up with the chip lead, followed by Masaki Ichikawa and Tony Dunst. 46 players survived Day 1B’s hostilities.
