EPT Barcelona Day 3 report

The third day of the EPT’s Barcelona stop saw a total of 36 players take to the tables. Amongst these players, all eyes were on Jason Mercier, the winner of last year’s San Remo event, who was playing for the honor of becoming the first ever two-time EPT champion. The action got underway fast, as the short-stacks were under increasing pressure form the get-go. Andrey Chesnokov was among the short-stacks, and decided to push all-in early on with his A,K, finding one caller on a K,10. Unfortunately for Chesnokov though, his opponent made a flush with a 10 that fell on the turn, and thus he was forced to head to the rail.
Chad Brown began the day in excellent shape, a few bad calls however pushed him to the brink of extinction soon. He felt his pocket Js were good enough to shove all-in on, and got called preflop by Daniele Mazzia with Q,K. The board was Q,8,3,9,4 giving Mazzia a higher pair, and Chad Brown’s day ended in 34th place.
Like Chad Brown, Stephen Chidwick had also begun the day in possession of a substantial stack. His ammo kept trickling away though, and soon the final table – which looked almost like a certainty at the beginning of the day – faded away in the distance. He shoved all-in on a K,10 only to be called by Samuel Chartier who was hiding pocket rockets. The board didn’t help Chidwick, as it brought another A on the river to improve Chartier to a top set. Chidwick ended up in 15th spot.
Mikael Lundell was the last player to bust out before the final table was set. He called Davidi Kitai’s all-in on an A,4 and even though he found himself in the lead before the flop (Kitai had Q,7), the board played a nasty trick on him giving Kitai a pair of Qs and leaving Lundell unimproved.
At the end of the day, it was Sebastian Ruthenberg and Martin Nielsen who almost shared the chip-lead, with 1,204,000 and 1,229,000 chips respectively. Samuel Chartier was third, with 879,000 chips.
Dren Ukella, Fintan Gavin, Davidi Kitai, Daniele Mazzia and Jason Mercier were the other final table participants.
