Day 4 of the Big Dance saw the remaining field of 474 players further narrow down, until only 189 players would be left to earn their seats at a Day 5 table. Starting the day were such celebrities as Johnny Chan, Phil Hellmuth, Mike Matusow and Allen Cunningham. The action turned extremely aggressive very early on as short stacks began their struggle for a much needed double up, in earnest.

Robert Mizrachi was one of the first victims of Day 4. He pushed his short-stack all-in on a K,J which had William Soffin’s Q,J dominated, but the board brought J,9,4 on the flop, and a Q on the river to give Soffin two pairs and to send Mizrachi home in 458th position.
Brian Shaedlich, one of the Day 2 chip leaders came into Day 4 on a much weakened stack. He pushed all-in on his A,9 and had the Q,4 of Darren Grant thoroughly dominated until another Q landed on the turn, which spelt the end of Schaedlich’s Main Event run.

The list of eliminations on superior starting hands continued as Shawn Sheikhan’s A,6 delivered the goods against Chris Bjorin’s A,Q in the form of 9-high straight that he mustered on the J,7,5,8,9 board.

Kirill Gerasimov also bled to death on a very solid starting hand: a pair of kings. Danny Mitnick’s A,K gained the upper hand on a A,A, 10 flop, and Gerasimov wasn’t able to swing back into the hand.

Later on, it was Adam Schoenfeld’s turn to become the object of mockery for Lady Luck: his pocket 10s matched holds with Sigurd Eskeland’s K,J on a flop+turn of 6,7,8,9. The only card that could lift Eskeland over Schoenfeld’s straight was a 10 which could give him a J-high against Adam’s 10-high. Sure enough, the needed card promptly arrived on the river making Adam Schoenfeld exclaim “ unbelievable” and sending him packing in 424th.
Other early victims of Day 4 hostilities were David Colclough, Mike Wattel and Jean-Robert Bellande.
Tim West and Frankie O’Dell finished in 419th and 418th places respectively.
