2,379 players started Day 2B of the Big Dance, with Henning Granstad leading the hostilities as play began. At the end of the day, though not yet eliminated, Granstad would concede the lead and the apparent iron grip he had had on his huge stack.

Activity-wise, Day 2B was an accurate copy of Day2A. Pressed by time and the escalating blinds, short-stacks initiated a flurry of all-ins which led to players dropping out like flies through the first couple of hours of the day.

John Juanda was the first big poker name of the day to head to the rail, as his gutshot failed to fill. The very first person to bust out though was Godsmack’s Sully Erna, who pushed all-in with a pair of 5s only to be met with an A,Q by an opponent. Clonie Gowen ran a couple of 8s into somebody’s pocket tens next, followed by Danny Wong, who played his pocket kings well, but got felted by an opponent with A,10 who made a pair of Aces.

It was Jerry Yang’s turn to say farewell to the chance of defending the title he’d won last year. His A,J fell to an A,9 as his opponent scored a pair of nines and he failed to improve.
Eric Haber made it to the break, but that was as far as he’d go today. Right after the break he capsized a pair of Js, running them into an opponent’s A,Q who didn’t just make a pair, but to add insult to injury, landed a third Q too.

Howard Lederer has left the Main Event too. The Professor’s A,K was no match for an opponent’s pocket 9s, as he failed to improve.

Steve Dannenmann wouldn’t see the second break of the day either. He made a pair of Qs on the flop, but an opponent made a straight on the turn to send him packing too.

While there were many big names eliminated today, many of the pros survived earning a seat at a Day 3 table. Phil Hellmuth, Mike Matusow, Johnny Chan, Evelyn Ng, Shawn Sheikhan, The Great Dane, and Phil Gordon will continue to delight viewers and their fellow players with their green felt antics at least for another day.
