WSOPE £10,000 Main Event Day 3 report

Day 3 of the WSOPE Main Event saw a whole bunch of high profile professionals return to the tables. Daniel Negreanu started the day near the top of the provisional leader board and he finished it even higher. John Juanda pulled the same stunt while Brian “shrugby” Townsend and Erik Seidel also registered nice progress.
There were 67 players at the tables at the start of the day, a field which would be cut down to 24 by its conclusion.
Justin Smith was the one responsible for the elimination of not one but two players on the same hand, early on.

He shoved all-in on a pair of rockets to be called by Jean Thorel with a J,J and Karl Mahrenholz (A,K). The flop came 6,Q,6 as the turn and the river fell a couple of blanks, and both Mahrenholz and Thorel headed to the rail.

At the beginning of the day, the bubble was only about 30 positions away, so it didn’t really take long before it was reached. The “honor” or rather the misfortune of finishing just one place shy of the money befell Stephen Ladowsky who shoved all-in on his Q,Q only to bump into Peter Turmezey’s A,K on a flop of K,6,4. The turn and the river didn’t help Ladowsky either, who thus took up the title of bubble boy.

To add insult to his injury, the next player to bust out did so on the very next hand, as Seidel trapped James Keys and sent him packing, on a QQ vs 10,2 match-up.
Josh Arieh barely made it to the money himself. Once the bubble burst though, he decided he needed to move: either up the chip-count or out of the tourney. His 9,9 failed to hold up against Perttu Bergius’ Ac, Qc as the latter flopped a nut flush.

Daniel Negreanu took Harri Pehkonen’s stack to add to his own, and Johnny Lodden also chipped up nicely towards the end of the day.
When the curtains fell, it was John Juana who led the pack with 657,500 chips, followed by Daniel Negreanu with 653,000 and Justin Smith, with 650,000. Townsend finished 6th with 424,500.
