Nguyen, McEvoy Inducted Into Poker HoF

The bustle and the back and forth surrounding the 2013 Poker Hall of Fame inductions kicked off in September. 34 people voted on who should be inducted this time around, among them the living Hall of Fame members and a special media panel of 18 insiders. Several others have chimed in on the inductions, some of these people openly trying to influence the actual results. Only yesterday we told you about Daniel Negreanu’s support for Scotty Nguyen’s induction, pointing out the special weight that the PokerStars pro’s opinions and statements usually carry in the poker world. Alas, today we can report that Nguyen has indeed been inducted, together with Tom McEvoy, and while one can’t be certain exactly how much Negreanu had to do with it, it only comes to confirm that whenever he throws his support behind a cause, he isn’t just whistling Dixie.
Jennifer Harman, Carlos Mortensen and Chris Bjorin were among the potential inductees as well, but they all missed the train this year.

The actual inductions will be done before the 2013 WSOP Main Event final table gets underway. McEvoy thanked everyone for his induction, saying that the accomplishment meant a lot to him. The possessor of 4 WSOP bracelets, McEvoy said he considered the induction “the frosting on his poker career cake”.

Needless to say, Nguyen – long vilified for a 2008 WSOP Players’ Championship meltdown – was delighted to hear about his induction too. Nguyen, whose early life story would make an excellent movie, won the WSOP Main Event back in 1998, defeating Kevin McBride and launching the catch-phrase “you call and it’s gonna be all over, baby”.
All-in-all Nguyen has 5 WSOP bracelets and countless of other notable poker achievements to his name.
He says his HoF induction will be something his grandchildren will be talking about.
