Event #6 of the 2013 WSOPE, the €3,250 Mixed Max PLO one, played down to its winner on Saturday. The one who walked away with the top prize and the gold bracelet in the end was
PokerStars pro Noah Schwartz, who defeated local player Ludovic Lacay heads-up for the title.
The two players had made their way into the final defeating Vitaly Lunkin and Jyri Merivirta respectively.
The player who entered the last stage of the event with a 2-1 lead was Lacay. Schwartz, who scored a second place finish in one of the
WSOP side events this summer, and who finished fourth in event #3 of this year’s WSOPE, bounced back though and he finally managed to get his hands on some coveted gold jewelry. He also picked up a €104.5k prize to go with it.
In the eventual grand scheme of things, Lacay, the runner-up, ended up with a €64.6k prize, while Vitaly Lunkin picked up €34.5k for his 3rd place, and Jyri Merivirta was rewarded with the same sum for his 4th.
Lacay as well as Schwartz held the chip advantage over their respective opponents at the beginning of the semi-final bouts. Being the seasoned pros that they are, they both knew to apply a great deal of pressure from the get-go. Even though Lunkin was at a serious disadvantage indeed, he caught an early double-up in his match with Lacay and that allowed him to put up some fight, but after about an hour, he had to admit defeat after a failed bluff.
Schwartz ended Merivirta’s run in the other semi-final much faster. He made a flush against his opponent’s busted draws to advance.
The 32nd hand of the final was the crucial one, which saw Schwartz take a massive lead against Lacay. It was all downhill for the Frenchman from there, and he succumbed not long after.
