November Nine – Final 3 Set

After the elimination of the first three contestants (Sam Holden, Anton Makiievskyi and Bob Bounahra) on Sunday, it was Phil Collins’ turn to start struggling with a short stack. By the time the 73rd hand of the November Nine showdown was reached, the man regarded the favorite by most of the experts before the bout was in trouble: he had the second shortest stack and it was do or die time for him. He shoved his last 13.5 million chips into the middle on a Qh,Jd and got the call from Ben Lamb who had an Ac,Qc in the BB.
Collins was in deep trouble and soon his situation would go from bad to worse. The Kd,5d,3h fell on the flop, and it appeared that Lamb had the pot locked up. The 10d on the turn gave more outs to Collins and the Qd on river made his flush, doubling him up.
A few hands later, Lamb got the better of Eoghan O’Dea, recovering his losses and crippling O’Dea in the process. A couple of hands later, Martin Staszko moved in for the kill and eliminated O’Dea in 6th place. O’Dea picked up $1.7 million for his efforts.
The next victim was Phil Collins who hit the rail right after O’Dea’s elimination, on the very next hand in fact. Pius Heinz was the one who scored this elimination. Collins shoved all-in again with an Ad, 7d and Heinz made the call with pocket 9s. The flop did give Collins and open-ended straight draw, but that was all he would get: a 9 on the turn sealed the deal for good and Collins pocketed $2.26 million.
After the dinner break, the flow of the action slowed down a bit. Heinz had the chip lead locked up, and Lamb was the short stack. He needed to get something going and he did eventually. Matt Giannetti was the one who paid the price. The last elimination of the day was a spectacular one. Giannetti’s A,3o was up against Lamb’s pocket Ks. The flop fell K,K,Q and the final 3 was set.
