October Nine Update – Gee, Salalburu, Esposito, Koroknai Eliminated

The October Nine is in full swing, as a matter of fact, the circle of candidates for the title is already down to the final 5.
The first player to bite the dust at the 2012 WSOP final table was Steven Gee. His elimination occurred on Hand #30, when Thomas was on the button and led out with a massive bet of 900k. The flop fell 7,4,5 rainbow and Gee bet again. He fired out yet another bet after the Jc fell on the turn. When the 3s hit the river, he shoved all-in, getting called by Thomas. Thomas had pocket Qs against Gee’s pocket 8s and first blood had been drawn. Gee picked up $754.7k.

The second player to hit the rail was Robert Salalburu. He was sitting in the BB and Sylvia had the SB. The two players went all-in pre-flop. Salalburu had pocket 7s against Sylvia’s Qc,5c. The board fell A,A,4,2,Q and Salalburu was out, $971.3k in his pocket.

Michael Esposito busted out in 7th place, becoming the first player to break the $1 million prize-barrier. He was sent to the rail by Greg Merson. Esposito’s last hand was another pre-flop all-in affair. His A,Jo went up against Merson’s A,Ko. Both players had a 4-card spade flush by the turn, but the river didn’t hit them and thus Merson won courtesy of his K kicker. The pot gave Merson the chip lead.

Merson took advantage of his large-stack status to score the next elimination. He went up against Andras Koroknai this time, sitting on the button. The chips went into the middle again before the flop, as Koroknai tabled K,Qo against Merson’s As, Ks. The board was a bunch of blanks again, and Koroknai picked up $1,640,902 for his efforts.
