Online action: Sahamies, Ivey and Dwan

Ever since Swedish mystery man “martonas” dropped what now appears to be his entire bankroll and left from the nosebleed stakes tables, online action has ebbed to a trickle, with the usual ultra high stakes players logging some hands albeit far below what they’ve gotten us used to.
Ilari Sahammies, known in online circles as “Ziigmund” has been riding a hot streak recently, and even though he did generate a $1.1 million profit in a week’s time, that money came from fewer than 1000 hands, which is far below what Ziiggy can produce in that given time-frame.
Tom Dwan, whose $1 million challenge series against Finnish pro Patrik Antonius hasn’t exactly moved in the direction he’d hoped either, saw a particularly rough week last week, dropping around $880,000 to his opponents at various PLO and NL Holdem nosebleed tables.
Those responsible for the New Jersey Wonderkid’s losses were Phil Galfond, Steve Silverman, Di Dang, David Benyamine, David Eldar and his arch durrrr challenge nemesis, Patrik Antonius.
Of course, Sahamies was also there and responsible for most of Dwan’s PLO losses.
Galfond performed the same duties over at the NL Holdem tables, where – among others – he successfully relieved Dwan of a $104,000 pot.
Dwan got a pair of Js in his pocket and mercilessly overplayed it in a 4-handed situation. He shoved all-in on it when the flop landed K,8,3 and Galfond called him with K,10, which also gave him a 4-card, K-high diamond flush. He failed to make his flush as the turn landed a 2s, and the river a Qc, but his pair of Ks was more than enough to secure the pot and to felt Dwan.
Having made up some $100k the following day, Dwan was still in a $250k hole when he locked horns with another nosebleed stakes mystery newcomer, “kingsofcards”. The hand was one of the most interesting ones and kingsofcards managed to pull a fast one on Dwan whose open ended straight failed to connect.
The money went all in on a flop of 10,5,4 and kingsofcards turned over pocket Ks for the lead. Dwan had 3,7d. That didn’t just give him an open ended straight but a 4-card diamond flush as well. The turn came a 5s and the river fell a Qs though to give the newcomer the pot.
In the meantime, the PL Omaha tables saw a battle of the giants between Ziigmund and Phil Ivey. The two of them locked horns on the $500/$1000 PLO tables, and logged around 200 hands, at the end of which the Finn walked away with a $270,000 profit.
Ivey did return for a rematch the following day, but he ended up losing a further $200,000 to Sahamies who appeared unstoppable, cracking Ivey’s rockets on one occasion through a lucky turn card.
The money went all-in on the turn after Ziiggy hit a set of 10s against Ivey’s pocket rockets. The river changed nothing and the Finn lifted a $165,000 pot off the most hyped November Nine member.
