Online Poker Action – Blom Drops $400k

No one even slightly versed in the ways of the online poker world has to be introduced to Viktor Blom’s wild, variance-ridden type of approach to high stakes cash game action. For the last few weeks, Blom has been on fire, following a much-less profitable start of the year. Variance inevitably caught up with him again, having snuck up on him in a truly despicable manner. The high stakes cash tables at Full Tilt Poker haven’t exactly been rife with action for the last couple of days, on account of the fact that most of the usual protagonists of the scene were Down-under, playing in the Aussie Millions. Blom was no exception to that, but everyone knows he’s addicted to online poker, so despite the top-notch tournament action raging around him, he found a little bit of a break, and he immediately hit the high stakes tables. In hindsight, it wasn’t exactly the best decision he’s made lately, because he ended up at the 2-7 Triple Draw heads-up tables, taking on Kagome Kagome.
People may not know a whole lot about Kagome Kagome, but it is an accepted fact that he’s a great 2-7 Triple Draw player, and during the 2-hour session he had against Blom, he provided further evidence to support that assertion. He relieved the Swede of no less than $400k, an all-annihilating blow to any regular bankroll, but a mere inconvenience and a small reminder regarding variance for Blom.

Obviously, the two didn’t play at the $1/$2 tables. The scenes of the heist were the $2k/$4k tables, where Kagome Kagome got off to a great start and he never bothered looking back. Although Blom did manage to alleviate his losses towards the end, the damage was still $396k. Blom then played Ben Tollerene at the PL Omaha CAP $500/$1k tables later and he won some $111k there.
Sign up to Full Tilt Poker and keep your eye on the high stakes tables: there’s always something interesting going on there.
