The battle for the biggest
online poker winner of 2011 went right down to the wire in December. Ilari Sahamies and Rafi Amit were the two main protagonists of the battle, but Isildur1 made a late run too and he almost managed to mess things up for the Finn who eventually finished on top. Sahamies finished $2.18 million above the red line to take the title. Barely has the old year wrapped up though that the race to the 2012 finish-line kicked off. Blom made sure this time that he was right there at the kickoff. Phil Galfond and Davin Georgi also took part in the early high stakes hostilities.
Georgi was off to a great start, but it wasn’t him who topped the winners’ list of the first week of the year. Bernard-bb was the one who clinched the top spot. He played more than 5k hands over 82 sessions and he built up a $284.9k profit.
1Il|1Il|1il|, played well too. He shot past the $200k mark profits-wise too, but he played a lot more. He logged 118 sessions totaling 8,712 hands.
Davin Georgi kicked off the New Year with a hugely successful session: he scored $134k at the $50/$100 PLO table, a deed made even more impressive by the fact that it was none other than Viktor Blom whom he took the money from. One of the largest pots of the session was an $87.7k monster, which landed in his possession after his pair of Ks faded Blom’s straight and flush draws.
Later on, he made a full house to pick up a $62.9k pot. Blom didn’t do too well that day: he finished down about $30k. The biggest loser of that same day was Phil Galfond though who lost close to $100k.
On January 2, both Blom and Galfond managed to recoup some of those losses. Blom then went on to pick up about $202k on Tuesday, in only 12 hours of play.
