The weekend majors didn’t fail to attract massive starting fields at PokerStars despite the ongoing WSOP. Players showed up in droves and several of them walked away with massive 6-figure
poker tournament profits. As usual, the Sunday Million was yet again responsible for the biggest winner of the weekend. The event drew a starting field of 6,634 entrants. These guys combined buy-ins to create a prize-pool of $1,326,800. Even though there was a 3-way deal at the top which potentially robbed him of money he could’ve otherwise taken home, the winner, Diego Sanchez, took home $189,431, which proved to be by far the biggest single weekend prize awarded anywhere online.
The other two players who managed to get their hands deep into the cookie-jar were runner up Pokerger1337, who took down $140,661 and buffyslayer1, who walked away with $127,126. No other players in the event managed to finish with a 6-figure profit.
There was a single notable who made it deep enough to earn mentioning: Haibo Chu finished 19th for a $3,104 prize.
In a clear reflection of the online impact that the WSOP had had, none of the other weekend majors managed to churn out even a single 6-figure winner. The Sunday Warm-Up was the one that came closest: UsleSvend from Denmark claimed the top spot in that one, taking home $99,695. The event saw 3,175 players belly up to the tables, creating a prize-pool of $635k.
There were no deals in this event, so UsleSvend did indeed take full advantage of his situation. The runner-up was jess1947, who took home $74.2k. George Danzer finished 3rd for a $52,387 profit.
The PokerStars Sunday 500 managed to shoot past its guarantee of $300k too, albeit only by a measly hair: the 705 participants coughed up $352,500.
The winner of the event was Ben Vilinofsky, who earned a $63.8k reward. Peter Jidne made the winners’ circle too: he won the PokerStars bigger 109 for a $34k top prize.
