Online Poker action – Dwan hit by massive loss

Tom Dwan had had an awesome 2010 run by all standards. He won about a million in February, more than 3 million in March and over 2 million in April at the online poker tables, making his embarrassingly huge $5.5 million, 2009 loss to Isildur1 all but forgotten. All good things have to come to an end though, and that’s especially true for winning streaks in poker.
As unbeatable as he looked in recent months, reality has finally caught up with Tom Dwan: he dropped around $2 and a half million during the last 7 days, dealing a heavy blow to his bankroll. On the other side of the spectrum, Patrik Antonius, who finally seemed to gain some traction in the durrrr challenge too, managed to dig himself out of the truly nasty hole that the first few months of 2010 meant for him, clawing his way back up into the black.
Most of the money Dwan dropped went to Phil Ivey and jungleman12, in heads-up games. While his two opponents were most certainly delighted with the haul and while $2.5 million is indeed a sum the loss of which would probably have any average person contemplating suicide, for Dwan it’s just business as usual. Don’t forget that he’s still $3.8 million in the black for 2010, so as far as he’s concerned he’s still playing
free poker.
Saturday marked the beginning of Dwan’s decline. He took on jungleman12 at 6 tables of $200/$400
NL Holdem. At the end of the 7,928 hand session, Dwan was $584k short. The biggest pot of the session was a $281k monster and it ended up in Jungleman12’s possession.
The same day, Dwan also locked horns with Phil Ivey at Full Tilt’s $500/$1,000 PLO tables. That
online poker session turned out to be a much shorter one, but it yielded a nearly similar result for Dwan. Over just 462 hands, he managed to drop an impressive $423k. The largest pot of the session weighed in at $296k and Ivey was the one who picked it up. As Dwan’s online poker woes continued, Antonius managed to pick up $639k. Dwan, Ivey, South, Hansen and Sahamies were collectively responsible for putting the Finn back up above the red line for the year.
