Online Poker Action – Galfond, Sahamies Week’s Big Winners

This week, the EPT’s first season 9 stop, the Barcelona one, was set to keep some of the high stakes regulars away from the
online poker tables. Indeed, a few of these guys did show up in the EPT events and managed to pull off a few deep finishes, but that was apparently not enough to keep them away from the online action. Having finished the previous week with a profit of $417k, Phil Galfond kept doling out the same sort of medicine to his opponents this week. He finished with a handsome profit of $463.1k again. He logged 10,171 hands in order to achieve the feat, spread over 141 different sessions.
Although this impressive haul did indeed give Galfond the biggest winner of the week title, Ilari Sahamies wasn’t far behind either. The Finn finished his week with a $439.9k profit, while keeping his chances alive at the EPT’s Main Event. He was much more efficient than Galfond too: in order to accumulate the above detailed profits, he only played 2,274 hands spread over 38 different sessions.
There were other massive winners too: Ben Sulsky took down $351k, while a player known as ‘madmags4’, finished with a $315k profit.
Viktor Blom, who had had a pretty impressive run following his departure from PokerStars ran into massive problems this week. He finished as the biggest loser, having dropped $563k. He wasn’t alone on the list of shame either. Gus Hansen donated quite a bit of money to his opponent as well: the Great Dane came in second, having lost $407k.
Other big losers were ‘Gozoboro’, who dropped $341.1k, and Alex Millar, who lost $233.9k.
EireAbu, the year-to-date leader in online poker cash game profits, saw action on Friday, when he blitzed Gus Hansen at the $1k/$2k Limit Omaha and $100/$200 PLO tables. He ended up with a profit of $382.8k from that session alone. The biggest pot of the day was a $134.2k monster, which landed on EireAbu’s side of the table.
