Online poker action: Sahamies slips further into the red

After several winning sessions he had had in past weeks, Ilari Sahamies’ online production seems to have turned southward for good.
Last week has seen a lull in nosebleed cash game activity as tournaments took the center stage for most of those usually involved in these games. The WSOPE in London had drawn away many of the nosebleed regulars and the WCOOP over at PokerStars had also taken a toll on the cash tables. Phil Ivey and Phil Galfond were present at the cash tables, and fortunately for them, so were Ilari Sahamies and Gus Hansen. The two latter players dropped close to two million dollars over just a few thousand hands and even though the majority of that money came from Sahamies (around $1.2million) Hansen lost around 700k himself, which is all the more significant considering the fact that one can barely remember the last time the Great Dane had booked a winning session at the cash tables.

On the other end of the spectrum, Phil Galfond picked up nearly $1 million in winnings, and the best thing about it was that he barely played 2,300 hands. Needless to say, almost all that money came from Ilari Sahamies, who was tilting badly during that session. Galfond and Ivey relieved Sahamies of about $800k before other players joined the feeding frenzy. Hansen, Di Dang and Tom Dwan also showed up at the $200/$400 PLO tables where the action was hot, but Cole South was the one who scored the biggest profit of all late-comers, adding $311k to his bankroll.
Apparently still on tilt, Sahamies then played some heads-up against Tom Dwan over at the $500/$1,000 PLO tables, where he managed to drop a $361,000 monster pot to durrrr.
The hand in question began with Sahamies’ $3,000 bet. Dwan quickly made that $9,000, Ziiggy called and they headed to the flop. The flop fell Js,9s,7d, and the action erupted. The two players raised and re-raised each other till they were both all-in. Dwan then tabled Qs,Jd,10h,8s for the nut straight. Not only that but his two spades gave him a Q-high flush draw a well. Ziiggy had J,J 4,4 for a set. Another pair on the board would’ve given him a boat and the win, but the As on the turn gave Dwan the nut flush and the 5d on the river sealed the fate of the monster-pot.

Gus Hansen was at the center of another feeding-frenzy on Monday, unfortunately, he was the bleeding fish the other players were biting chunks of. The Great Dane lost a staggering $725,000 in about 1,000 hands, donating most of it to Tom Dwan, who relieved him of about $221k. Patrik Antonius and Cole South did pretty well against Hansen too, grabbing about 150k each. South took no fewer than 3 pots larger than $160,000 off Hansen. The largest of these was a $193,000 one, in which South landed the nut flush against Hansen’s second nut flush and Antonius’ two pair.
Regardless how Hansen got his money in, there was not a pot he could land. Even when he was a favorite, he ended up losing.
The biggest winners of the week were Ivey and Galfond, who both pocketed around $1 million. Cole South showed nice profit as well, with around $458,000 in the black.
Sahamies and Hansen were joined on the losers’ list by David Benyamine, who dropped about $279,000.
