Online Poker Petition Reaches 5k Signatures in 3 Days

The online poker petition launched a few days ago on the “We The People” section of the White House website, managed to accumulate the 5,000 signatures needed for consideration in a mere 3 days, instead of the 30 put forth in the petition requirements.
The story behind the petition is a White Hours initiative, which created the possibility for citizens to create online petitions regarding issues they deem important for the future of the country. Currently, there are more than 7,000 signatures on the petition and the PPA is urging more people to sign it.
According to Rich Muny, the PPA’s vice president of player relations – one of the people responsible for drumming up the impressive amount of support – accumulating as many signatures as possible past the required 5,000 is extremely important, because it will show the administration that Americans do indeed care about the game and that legal online poker does in fact enjoy massive support across the country, far above and beyond the minimum required petition signatures. The petition may not directly prompt any concrete action toward regulation and legalization, but it has to let those in charge know that it is an important matter for the American people.

A total of 86 petitions have been created thus far, of which the one regarding online poker is currently 21st. To put things into perspective, the petition about the legalization of marijuana use is currently first, boasting over 40k signatures.
Having more people sign the petition is important because the White House has warned it may raise the needed total if a high number of petitions get past the 5k mark.
It is currently unclear exactly who or what department will deal with the petitions that make the cut.
Signing the petition is possible till October 22, after which – according to the site officials, the administration will issue a response that will be posted on the site.
