Online Poker Weekend – Jason Koon Wins Warm-Up

Over the weekend, the online majors all beat their guarantees yet again. The Sunday Million saw its guarantee exceeded by $300k+ (by a margin a tad smaller than usually though) and the Sunday Warm-Up exceeded its guarantee by almost $200k too.
The biggest
poker tournament winner of the weekend was luizsanchez4, who didn’t even win the Sunday Million, but rather, he finished runner-up. The $155k prize he took home though is testimony to his outstanding bargaining skills. The event, which drew a starting field of 6,783 players, generated a prize-pool of $1,356,600. The reason why the actual winner of the event was not the one to take home the biggest prize was a simple one: there was a 4-way deal at the top, which left the winner, sexylady409, with $132.9k. The deal also meant that the 3rd and 4th place finishers took home 6-figure hauls as well.
Steven Van Zadelhoff was the highest finishing “name” pro in the event: he took home $3.1k for his 22nd place.
Despite its smaller prize-pool, the Sunday Warm-Up was the event which drew more media attention. The reason was Jason Koon’s victory. Koon, a well-known pro, who has earned his stripes at the live poker tables (he has taken down two massive live scores this year already, in a WSOP event and in the
PCA’s $25k High Roller) has now proved his worth online as well. He didn’t make any deals, going for all the marbles instead, an approach which resulted in his taking home of a $109.8k prize. Koon bested jurata_PL heads-up. The runner-up was rewarded with $81.8k.
Koon was the only 6-figure winner in the event which drew 3,499 players. There weren’t any other 6-figure winners in any of the other weekend events.
