PartyPoker WPT Merit North Cyprus Classic – Day 1A Report

The first day 1 flight of the much-hyped, PartyPoker-sponsored WPT Merit North Cyprus Classic is in the books, and the player leading the field is Russia’s Andrey Pateychuk.
A total of 150 players bought into the
poker tournament at the beginning of the first day of action, and some 21 of them decided to re-buy after they got bounced. The re-buys took the total number of buy-ins to 171. More re-buys will probably be registered on the other Day 1 flights too, since players are allowed to re-buy once every starting day.
Pateychuk’s field-leading stack was a 161.8k chip one. Dmitry Bayramov was the one who finished second, with 149.2k chips to his name. Other players who had deep runs in the event were Seref Dursun Anar, who had 147.2k chips bagged, Ivan Sheptytskiy, whose 144.1k chips were enough for 4th place and Alexandr Lakhov, who completed the top 5.

As one can tell from the makeup of the top 10, Day 1A was dominated by the Russian contingent, not just performance-wise, but presence-wise as well. Few local, Greek and Turkish players showed up, while the Russians and the Ukrainians were indeed eager to cough up the buy-in.
Besides the above said deep-finishers, Vladimir Troyanovskiy played too, together with Dmitry Gromov and Alexey Rybin.
Rybin was one of the players who failed to make it through the day. He was joined on the rail by Toby Lewis, who managed to bite the dust not once, but two times, following a re-buy.
Nicolas Chouity was also among those sent packing on Day 1A. Sam Trickett was particularly unlucky: his demise came in the very last hand of the day.
