PartyPoker WPT UK Main Event: Cimbolas Wins

The final table of PartyPoker’s WPT UK Main Event kicked off with Lithuania’s Matas Cimbolas holding the largest stack of chips. Cimbolas managed his advantage well, and despite a scary hick-up during the heads-up stage of the
poker tournament, he eventually managed to go all the way, picking up the £200k top prize. The player who gave him problems during the home stretch of the tournament was the UK’s Ben Warrington, who eventually finished with £140k to his name.
The beginning of the last day of action saw 6 players return to the tables, four of them representing the UK, one France and the other one – the eventual winner – Lithuania. The first elimination of the day happened only 15 minutes into the action. Patrick Leonard of the UK was the first one to hit the rail, picking up a £39.5k reward for his efforts. The one responsible for his elimination was Ben Warrington. Leonard was followed to the rail by his fellow countryman Phillip Mighall, whose 5th place was worth £48k.

Far from being void of “name” competitors, the final table eventually got rid of one of these guys: France’s Antoine Saout busted in 4th place, sent packing by Warrington again. Saout’s reward was £67k. The Frenchman was followed out the door by another “name” player, the UK’s Tamer Kamel whose share of the prize-pool was £92k. Kamel was sent packing by Warrington, after a coin-flip, which saw the latter’s pocket 9s triumph over his A.Ko.
The beginning of the heads-up action saw the Lithuanian falter, and at one point he found himself at a 5-1 chip disadvantage. He bounced back though, after his A,5 got the better of his opponent’s A,6, giving him the chip lead back and perhaps more importantly, the momentum as well.
