PCA side events – prize-pools for the commoners

While the PCA’s Main Event and the High Rollers’ Event are obviously rather elitist in nature - if for no other reason, then for the size of the buy-ins - there are other events at the PCA too which feature much smaller buy-ins offering the chance for the less generously bankrolled players to play for large prize-pools too. Event #1, the Fish and Chips Showdown isn’t exactly a good example in this sense though. Only 5 players coughed up the $2,300 buy-in for this one. 4 of them finished in the money, although 4th place finisher Kenneth Hicks only won $700. The winner though, Wade Townsend, walked away with $6,150.
Event #4, the $270+$30 NL Holdem Turbo event is a much better example of a relatively low buy-in yet high prize-pool event. 210 players registered for this one, bringing the prize-pool to a total of $55,000. The winner, Jessica Lamie, took down a $14,850 prize.
Event #6, the $900+$100+$100 Randomized Bounties event, raised the stakes quite a bit. The prize-pool in this event was a $93,120 one and there were bounties players could take down as well. Antonios Papadopoulis won this one for $27k. Second place man Michael Michnik finished in 5-figures too, scoring a $13,980 haul for his efforts.

Event #8, the PLO Turbo one, featured a buy-in of $300. Only 78 players registered for it though, which meant that the prize-pool would not exceed $20,430.
The winner, Attila Koves, took home $6,540. Another $300 buy-in event was Event #8, the PL Omaha-8 Turbo, which had 78 participants as well. Bjornar Thomassen won this event for a $6,540 prize.
Obviously, the action has not yet come to an end at the 2011 PCA. The Main Event is in full swing and the NAPT Bounty Shootout promises plenty of thrills too. More side-event action is underway as well.
