Phil Ivey to launch poker website

In this day and age, pretty much everybody who’s anybody has some sort of an online presence. The wild proliferation of social networking means that everyone has – or at least has the illusion of having – his/her own corner of the World Wide Web. For a true poker personality like Phil Ivey though, having a website is pretty much a case of “noblesse oblige” though. Other similar caliber players, like Daniel Negreanu for instance have long established a true web presence through their own blog-sites. Doyle Brunson runs a blog of his own too, and the list could go on. Many of the newer generation players have mostly relied on twitter only though. That is no longer the case for Ivey apparently: a few weeks ago, right around the conclusion of the NBC Heads-Up event, he posted a tweet which said that he was working on something big with his top poker friends.
A few weeks later, PhilIvey.com appeared, and critics were quick to jump all over it to rate/berate it. The truth about the website is though that as of now, there’s not a whole lot of information up there.
Other than the slogan “Now I’m going to teach the whole world to win at poker” (which blissfully disregards the fact that in order for one person to win big, one or several others have to lose), there’s nothing up there really.
Some critics have also floated another question: while we all know that Ivey is nothing short of a genius at the poker table, his ability to teach others is at least somewhat questionable. Having achieved the level of poker thought that he has, it’s questionable if he’s even able to relate to beginners who may never be able to achieve the intellectual insight that he masters.
One thing he certainly could attempt to teach the masses though is The Stare. People would probably love to take a shot at that…
