Poker Rumors – Sebok and the WPT

poker forums are great for the community. They’re like the marketplace in the ancient Roman Empire, where everyone could voice his opinion, to earn the scorn or the respect of the community or to simply incite flaming and verbal violence. Of course, amid all the strategy discussion and various more or less useful rumors, there are plenty of speculations and absolutely baseless assertions too. A few days ago, on one of the most popular poker forums a post emerged claiming that professional player Joe Sebok had signed with the WPT. The post referenced a tweet, allegedly from Freddy Deeb’s daughter, which claimed that Sebok had joined the WPT team and it even included a picture of him.
Well, the rumor turned out to be nothing more than what seasoned forum posters call ‘white noise’. Even though it all amounted to nothing in the end, the reaction it sparked from some of the highest profile professionals was extremely interesting. One of the people who posted a response to the original thread was Isaac Haxton, who took the opportunity to slam Sebok for his UB role. According to Haxton, Sebok laughed all the way to the bank following the UB disaster and even now he takes the time to tweet about his awesome life and his beach-house which he – according to Haxton – had bought with money UB paid him in exchange for keeping mum about the cheating that had happened at the site.
Singling out Sebok may seem unfair, but one has to keep in mind that unlike some of the other UB pros like Cantu, Levy and Maria Ho, whose role was to represent the brand at various live events, Sebok made statements on behalf of the company and he obviously had much more direct connections with the management of the company than the others.
Sebok himself has thus far refrained from commenting on the rumors linking him to the WPT.
