PokerNews Cup Alpine Main Event Day 2 report

The 33 survivors of the first day of the PokerNews Cup Alpine Main Event took their seats at the tables of the Alpine Palace Hotel and Card Casino in Saalbach Hinterglemm for the second day of hostilities. At the beginning of the day, Marc Vos held a huge chip lead over his pursuers, and at the end of the day it was still him who held the top spot of the provisional leader board firmly in his talons.
It only took the 33 players about 4 hours to fight it down to the final 9 as the hectic day drew to a close.
Marc Vos started out vigorously, and continued right where he’d left off on the previous day: building his stack. Marcel Luske, the other player who’d had an excellent Day 1, found the going extremely tough on Day 2. He eventually busted out at the hands of Runnar Lidepuu. The money went into the middle on a flop of J,9,2 as Luske held J,10 for top pair, but was trailing Lindepuu who had J,2 for the two pair. The turn and the river failed to help the Dutchman and thus his tournament was over.
Mark Vos was the player who eventually decided who would bust on the bubble. Daniel Perfeito busted out in 16th at the hands of Vos and thus the bubble burst, with the remaining 15 players relieved and in the money. Vos’ Ac,Qc was behind Perfeito’s K,K when the money went in, but the A on the flop turned things around for good.
The next player to fall also headed to the rail courtesy of Vos. Nicholas Van Der Marel’s Ac,Qc failed to hold up against Vos’ 6s,8s and he too was done.
Nik Lackovic lost two pots to Mark Naalden. The first one left him crippled as he ran his Q,Q into Naalden’s rockets, and the second one sent him to the rail. The final table bubble boy was Jasper Wetemans, who was ejected by Runnar Lindepuu.
Marc Vos will start the final table with a solid chip lead on Day 3. Runnar Lindepuu is currently second with nearly half as big a stack as Vos’.
