Day 2 of the PokerNews Cup $550 Celebrity shootout got under way with 8 players remaining in the books and with two of the players with bounties on their heads still shooting for victory.
The eight final table players were: Sam Khouiss (with 220,000 chips), Reza Vakili (with 205,000), Vito Monatalto (180,000), Eoghan Lyons (160,500), Kenneth Damm (140,000), Gursel Ali (115,000), Tony Bromham (80,000) and Andre Andrade (58,000).
Play began with the short-stacks (Andrade and Bromham) looking to expand their tournament lives trying to double up. None of their attempts were successful though as they became the first two to hit the rail.
Andrade made his dash for more cash on a pocket hand of A,J. He got one caller in Eoghan Lyons who decided to defend his BB holding A,Q. The board brought only blanks, and thus Andrade was sent to the rail in 8th place.
Lyons and Khouiss ganged up on Tony Bromham next. Bromham shoved all-in on his 9s,10s and got called by both Lyons and Khouiss who checked him down. The board fell 5,4,A,8,K, as Lyons revealed a pair of 6s and Khouiss tabled Kh,Qh to take down the pot.
Reza Vakili, who had chipped up in a spectacular fashion a day before, busted out next, despite holding the second largest stack at the beginning of final table hostilities.
He put his tournament life on the line with A,7 against Eoghan Lyons’ A,Q. The board fell 10,Q,8,Q,5 and sealed Vakili’s fate sending him to the payout queue to pick up a $5,425 prize for his 6th place finish.
Gursel Ali was the next victim, his demise brought about by Kenneth Damm.
Eoghan Lyons, one of the most active players from the final table, lost a few hands and found himself in the undesirable position of the short-stack soon. He shoved all-in from the button on a Ah,Qd and got called by Kenneth Damm with 3d,6d. The flop landed 3,6,9 giving Dam a solid lead, and neither the 6 on the turn, nor the 7 on the river changed anything.
Vito Montalto made a decisive move next, only to run into Damm’s K,K.
Damm faced Sam Khouiss heads-up, and knocked him out on a 5,5 vs K,Q match-up on a board full of blanks to pocket not only the prize for first place but also the $500 bounty off Khouiss.
