PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker are Back in the US!

Here's something that those of us who were in the loop when online poker's Black Friday struck thought we would never live to see: PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker have clawed their way back into the US, and even though this comeback is only valid in New Jersey for the time being, its significance is still enormous. The announcement was made by David Baazov, Chairman and CEO of Amaya Gaming, the company behind the two online poker rooms. The entity which made the decision to allow PokerStars and Full Tilt back into New Jersey was the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, following a lengthy and thorough review of the operation. Apparently, during the course of the review process, no fewer than 70 individuals have done sworn interviews. As required by law, Amaya have a land-based partner in Atlantic City in Resorts Casino Hotel.

The Garden State online poker market is already somewhat saturated, by operators like 888poker, PartyPoker and WSOP.com, but for an operator of the caliber of PokerStars, regular competition rules hardly apply. The PokerStars brand is indeed strong enough to take command of the market even as a late-comer.
Together with a return to online poker, Amaya may also nurture ambitions of returning the PokerStars brand to the North American live poker scene. Indeed, there's some speculation about an imminent return of the NAPT (North American Poker Tour), speculation largely fueled by the tweet of an Amaya employee, who said he was the new Live Event Manager for North America.
The bottom line is that beyond the symbolic meaning, PokerStars' return to the US opens the door to a whole array of exciting possibilities for poker players and for the industry as a whole.
