PokerStars Caribbean Adventure – Day 2 report

Posted by: James Carter. - Sun, 2010-01-10 05:13

The second day of the PokerStars Caribbean adventure saw a field of 884 Day 1A and Day 1B survivors return to action. Praz Bansi was the player who made the biggest progress on Day 2 and finished with the largest stack of chips: 960,800. Bansi did begin the day on a healthy stack, but he played at probably the toughest table, hidden in the back. He did great all through the day though, adding to his stack constantly, despite the circumstances. Terrence Chan, Dario Minieri, Glen Chorny and Justin Bonomo were all at Bansi’s table, so the going wasn’t at all easy for him there.

The table of death was broken up about halfway through the day though, and Bransi got away from the tight bunch he had faired so well against. JC Alvarado was seated at his new table and it was only a matter of time before the two of them would collide.
The decisive confrontation between the two came about on a flop of Qh, 6c, Jc. After a re-raising war on the flop, the 4c fell on the turn. Bansi shoved all-in and Alvarado made the call. The Mexican had pocket Qs for a top set, but unfortunately he found himself stuck on the low end of a perfect hand: Bansi had turned a flush, holding 10c, 7c. The 5d on the river proved to be meaningless and Bansi vaulted to the chip lead.

At the beginning of Day 2, all eyes were on chip leader Wayne Bentley. Bentley did well through Day 2 too and he finished right up there with the largest stacks again. His Day 2 ride was more of a rollercoaster-like one, as he dropped about half of his Day 2 starting stack in the beginning. He then roared back into contention though and caught up with the leaders.
Matt Graham and Jeff Madsen were also among those who had a successful poker tournament on Day 2. Annette Obrestad, one of the previous days’ strong runner was bounced by Matt Graham on an A,K vs A,Q match-up.
Other big names hit the rail on day 2 too. Noah Boeken, Barry Greenstein, Humberto Brenes and Betrand Grospellier were also among the casualties.
