Nine hours of intense green felt battles was all it took William Reynolds to take the $576,240 first prize and the title in the
PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Rollers event on Thursday.
A total of 8 players showed up at noon in the Imperial Ballroom at the Atlantis Resort and Hotel, on a specially set up stage to try to grab as big a share of the $1.7 million prize-pool as possible.
Tobias Reikenmeier started the final table action in the chip lead, and he wasn’t about to hide behind his large stack and let the others eliminate one another. He swung into action and he clamed the first final table victim, only two hands after the kick-off.
Dimitry Stelmak was the first victim. William Reynolds didn’t want to get left behind so he took out Matt Marafioti, quickly after Stelmak’s elimination. The two flipped a coin on a 7,7 vs A,Ko match-up and Marafioti’s side of the coin proved to be the unlucky one.
After two of the shorter stacks were disposed of, the remaining 6 players in the
poker tournament slowed the pace of the action a little. Opportunity would soon rear its head though, and Will Molson couldn’t resist challenging Reikenmeier, when he picked up a Kh, Qh. Sure enough, Reikenmeier’s Kd, 9d proved to be no match for his rivered straight and he took the chip lead.
Lisa Hamilton and Michiel Brummelhuis matched starting hands next. With all the chips in the middle preflop, they both hit a set on the board, but Brummelhuis’ proved to be the bigger one.
Reikenmeier’s pocket 8s didn’t stand a chance against Reynold’s pocket rockets, so the ex-chip leader found himself bounced in 5th place.
Brummelhuis’ stack became the short one after Reikenmeier’s elimination, despite the earlier addition to it, so the Dutch player needed to make a move. He committed his entire stack on a Q,9o and ran head-first into Reynolds’ pocket rockets to head to the rail in 4th place.
Reynolds then proceeded to eliminate Adolfo Vaeza in 3rd place to allow Will Molson to repeat his performance from last year. That was all he’d allow him to achieve though. After about 3 hours of see-sawing, Reynolds’ Ad, 10d moved in for the kill against Molson’s K,8o.
