PokerStars EPT London – Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the PokerStars EPT London consisted of 4 levels, at the end of which James Mitchell emerged with the chip lead. 159 players bellied up to the tables at the beginning of the day, and when the dust had settled, only 62 had chips bagged for day 4.

The story of the day was the bursting of the money bubble. Set for 105th place, the money bubble would see no fewer than 55 players go home empty handed before it burst, landing the survivors in the money. Given the high concentration of ‘name’ pros in the field, several of these guys would go home empty-handed, among them Sorel Mizzi, Jason Mercier, Dan Kelly, Jake Cody and James Akenhead. Sorel Mizzi’s elimination is 106th place at the hands of Laurence Houghton set up the money bubble. The money bubble burst relatively fast. Steven Warburton picked up an Ad, Kd and shoved all-in, only to be met with Kyle Cheong’s pocket rockets. The flop did land a couple of diamonds to give him some hope, but whatever hopes he had were dashed by the turn and the river and the money bubble was out of the way.

Doyle Brunson had played extremely well through the first two days of action, but his time came on day 3: he shoved all-in with A,3o, and got called by Marco Leonzio, who had Ad, Qd. The flop brought a Q which gave Lenzio the lead. The turn and the river then bricked out to send Brunson to the rail, amid applause from those who remained in contention.
Bryn Kenney, Sebastian Ruthernberg and Jeff Sarver busted out during this stage of the tournament too.
Mitchell was followed by Sam MacDonald in the end of the day chip count. Martins Adeniya finished 3rd.
The 4th day of the event will see 62 players return. The objective for Day 4 is to play down to the final 24.
