PokerStars.it EPT San Remo – Day 1A Report

Barely has the WSOP-E wrapped up in Cannes, the action has already kicked off just across the border, in San Remo. The EPT San Remo Main Event saw 359 players belly up to the tables on the first of the two day 1 flights.
The Italians were massively represented on their home turf of course. The end of the day saw 200 players bag their chips, day 2 strategy in mind. Gianluca Trebbi was the one who managed to secure the chip lead: he built a stack of 159,600 chips. Massimiliano Forti, another Italian, was right behind him with 159,100.

While most of the high profile crowd is planning to hit the green felt on day 1B, a fair number of ‘name’ pros, some of them belonging to Team PokerStars Pro, saw action on Day 1A.
Jason Mercier, Daniel Negreanu, Marcin Horecki and Arnaud Mattern all played, however, none of them managed to gain approval from Lady Luck, and thus they all hit the rail before the dinner break.
Vanessa Rousso had a pretty tough day too: she struggled with a short stack for a while, but eventually she did manage to survive. She will move on to day 2 with a stack of 33.1k. Lex Veldhuis and John Duthie will be back on Day 2 too.

Marco Traniello and Jennifer Harman played too. Traniello finished with a healthy stack that positioned him near the top of the pops for the day. Harman finished with a decent stack of about 71k chips as well.
The unique style of play brought to the mix by the locals makes San Remo one of the favorite EPT stops for skilled pros, who are keen on exploiting the ruthlessness of the Italian poker playing public. Of course, the oft-erratic action will claim the tournament lives of a disproportionately high number of ‘name’ pros during the early stages of action too.
