PokerStars.it EPT San Remo – Day 2 Report

482 players returned to action on the 2nd day of the 2011 PokerStars.it
EPT San Remo Main Event, ready to do whatever it took them to advance and to build a stack as large as possible. The pace of the early action was something well worthy of the “breakneck” epithet. Over the course of about 7 levels, around 300 players were sent to the rail and it looked like the money bubble would burst too. Eventually, the bursting of the bubble was postponed as the survivors had their chips bagged. Joseph Cheong was the one who had the largest stack of chips, his 632k monster an early guarantee of a deep cash finish.
Cheong’s most important accomplishment to date is his 4th place finish in the 2010
WSOP Main event, which landed him a $4 million + reward. He’s also seen success in various EPT events since.
Cheong began the day with a healthy stack of some 70k chips, but he hit a major snag when dropped about half of it to Nick Yunis over the first level.
It took him about two hours, but he managed to successfully work his way up to 300k chips. It was smooth sailing for him from there on out, especially after he was moved to a table where Shaun Deeb was schooling a few of the local amateurs in the fine art of skinning fish alive.
It wasn’t until the last level of the day though that Cheong managed to break through for good: he took down a huge pot which contained about a third of Shaun Deeb’s chips and the entire stack of Piero Guido, who had been pushing his A,Ko against Cheong’s pocket rockets.
Vanessa Selbst played well and she finished with a large stack as well. Her break came during the closing stages of the day too, when she took a huge pot off Salman Behbehani.
