PokerStars.it EPT San Remo – Day 3 Report

Day 4 of the PokerStars.it EPT San Remo Main Event was an extremely short one. The organizers had plans for the field to play down to the final 64, and that goal was reached handily. Only 144 players returned to action and with the money bubble set for 128th place, the hurdle was quickly shoved aside.
Chris McClung was the player who had the largest stack when the day was called.
Swedish poker pro William Thorson and Kevin MacPhee were involved in a huge hand before the money bubble was reached.

The two players engaged in a preflop betting frenzy, at the end of which they were both nearly all-in. The tournament director has called for the hands-for-hand stage preceding the money bubble before the flop fell. The flop came Qc, 10d, 5d and MacPhee wasted no time in shoving the remainder of his stack into the middle. Thorson thought about it for a while, during which time, members of the media swarmed the table sensing the imminent bursting of the money bubble. Eventually, Thorson decided against making the call and gave up the pot. Neither player showed his hand. The pot thrust MacPhee into the upper echelons of the leader board while Thorson sunk back into the field. Several other players shoved all-in and got away with the deed before Christian Troger moved all-in against Chris McClung, on a flop of 10,7,4 rainbow. Troger held As, 7s against McClung’s pocket Ks. The turn and the river bricked out and Troger was eliminated, bursting the money bubble and sending the remainder of the field into the money.

2010 November Nine member Joseph Cheong had the largest stack at the beginning of the day. He didn’t find the going easy at all though and he went through quite a few ups and downs before ending up with a decent stack of 833k chips. PokerStars’ Vanessa Selbst, Johnny Lodden, John Duthie and Lex Veldhuis all advanced as well.
