PokerStars Looking to Return to New Jersey

Much of the enthusiasm behind the drive that resulted in the legalization and regulation of online poker in New Jersey a couple of years ago stemmed from the fact that PokerStars, the world's largest and arguably best online poker operator, was poised to re-enter the market, buying up a live Atlantic City gambling establishment in the process. Of course, as we know it, those dreams went up in a puff of smoke, but despite what the general public may have been led to believe, PokerStars have apparently never tossed those dreams in the bin, keeping them on the back-burner instead, ready to dust them off as soon as another opportunity presented itself. That opportunity may be now as it looks like PokerStars, together with Full Tilt Poker, may end up staging a return to New Jersey during the third quarter of 2015.

The reasons behind the restrictions levied upon PokerStars (and Full Tilt Poker) had to do with the "bad actor" clause included in the laws regulating online poker in the Garden State. After all, both operators - then separate entities - continued to offer US players real money games after the 2006 UIGEA, all the way till April 15, 2011, when the DoJ moved to shut them down, together with Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker.
In the wake of what has since been known as online poker's Black Friday, PokerStars swung into action, repaying their players and bailing out former competitor Full Tilt Poker. According to Amaya Gaming, the company behind PokerStars, the Bad Actor clause should no longer apply to the brand, since it has been sold and none of the current leadership was in any way involved in pre-Black Friday operations.
