PokerStars.net Big Game – we have a loose cannon champ!

Week 12 (the last of the Big Game’s current season) proved to be the decisive one when it came to determining the loose cannon champion. This week’s loose cannon was Bob Ferdinand, a former bus driver from Boston, who managed to capture the title by logging the biggest loose cannon profit of the season. Known to friends as “Bobby the Bus”, Fredinand picked up a NAPT passport on top of his winnings.
As you probably know, the Big Game is a 150-hand, high stakes ($200/$400 with a $100 ante) cash game, in which a loose cannon (a qualifying member of the public) gets $100k from PokerStars to try to squeeze a profit out of it at the end of the session. Trying to stop him are a bunch of pros, like Bertrand Grospellier, Vanessa Rousso, Abe Mosseri, Phil Hellmuth and Amit Makhija. This was the exact lineup that Bobby the Bus had to face and he acquitted himself of the task marvelously.
Ferdinand shot right out the gates, taking down a huge pot from Hellmuth, one that developed in a hand in which the board created a perfect hand situation. With Ferdinand holding an A,J and Hellmuth a Q,6 the flop fell Q,Q,A, giving both players something worthy of trying to build a pot on. That was exactly what they did and things seemed headed Hellmuth’s way till another A fell on the river to give Ferdinand the pot.
A few hands later though, Hellmuth struck back with a vengeance, taking a huge pot off the loose cannon and leaving him with a stack of $78k.
Vanessa Rousso’s day didn’t go well at all. She only lasted for 22 hands, dropping the last of her chips to Makhija. Peter Jetten jumped in to replace her.
When it was all said and done, Ferdinand was the one with the biggest profit ($181,500), followed by Hellmuth with $93,500.
