PokerStars’ “Shark Cage” Announced

The marketing team over at PokerStars never sleeps and given their probable budget, there are few things they cook up that aren’t put into practice. On Monday, PokerStars announced their Shark Cage promotion, a TV show which will offer nameless players the chance to make their mark at the high stakes tables of the poker world and to make a name for themselves.
The TV show is about pitting a mix of online qualifiers and Team
PokerStars Pros against each-other in a series of bouts which take place at various EPT events, at the end of which, there will be a grand final which will reward its winner with a $1 million prize. The final will be a winner-take-all affair, meaning that everyone but the champion will go home empty-handed.
The show will be spread out through most of the current
EPT season, beginning with the 2014 PCA. Each EPT stop will host a Shark Cage heat, which will feature 5 Pros and an online qualifier duking it out for a seat at the Grand Final table, that will take place at the EPT London. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure is an exception in this respect too: it will host two such heats, sending two players to the final table.
In addition to that, the Monte Carlo Grand Final will feature no fewer than 4 heats, while the Barcelona stop will see two unfold.
Starting today, there will be online qualifiers running at PokerStars every day, right up to the end of the month. These qualifiers will feature an added prize-pool of $5k. The top 50 finishers will make their way to a casting, which will decide who goes to the TV show.
The casting stage will consist in the evaluation of personal video auditions sent in by the qualifiers.
The submitted videos don’t even have to be in English.
