PokerStars Shut Out of New Jersey Online Poker

PokerStars have not been granted a temporary waiver to start offering online poker in New Jersey yet, and by the looks of things, they may in fact end up being shut out of the New Jersey market for good.
According to the Resorts Casino Hotel, the live gambling operator which has teamed up with PokerStars, they will probably be the only land-based operator/online poker duo not to receive a New Jersey permit. Thus far, Rational Group Representatives have not commented on what’s essentially a rumor at this point, given the fact that their application is still officially being considered by the New Jersey DGE.
The opposition against
PokerStars’ and Full Tilt Poker’s return to the US market has been staunch and well-documented. Only a short while ago, an allegedly reliable source said that Isai Scheinberg’s involvement with the day-to-day operations of the Rational Group would constitute a huge hurdle in the way of the license. Scheinberg is considered wholly responsible for PokerStars’ strategy to keep offering
real money online poker in the US, in spite of the provisions of the 2006 UIGEA.
Apparently however, the allegations concerning Mr. Scheinberg’s presence at the helm of the company have been proven inaccurate and untrue. According to the agreement the operator has signed with the DoJ, Scheinberg’s role in the company had to be limited, but he has never been asked to completely step aside. Scheinberg resides on the Isle of Man, a fact well known to the New Jersey licensing authorities.
If PokerStars are prevented from re-entering the US market, the other operators currently already lined up for the official launch of online gambling/poker will have scored a major victory. Considering the global prestige and momentum of the PokerStars brand, it makes perfect sense for the competition to try to avoid a direct confrontation with it.
