PokerStars’ Supernova Elite Retrospective

As lines are drawn at the end of the year, some online poker players obviously have a lot more to brag about than others, and for 371 of PokerStars’ players, this has been exceptionally true for 2013. These players have reached the Holy Grail of
online poker: Supernova Elite status at the world’s largest online poker operation. In order to achieve that feat, these players needed to accumulate at least 1 million VPPs during the year, which is exactly what they have accomplished and then some. The one who made the most VPPs had a staggering total of 4,501,829 points accumulated, although unfortunately, the identity of this player remained a mystery.
The runner-up with exactly 4 million VPPs was
PokerStars’ George Lind, who took part in a much-hyped and buzzed-about challenge in May, which was basically about accumulating 1 million VPPs, enough for Supernova Elite Status, while managing to turn a profit. His profits were counted without rakeback of course, so it was indeed quite a feat to pull on his part.
There were other players too who accumulated quite a bit more than the minimum 1 million VPPs required for the Supernova Elite status.
Being a Supernova Elite lends quite some bragging rights to players, and it confers something of a virtual celebrity status to them as well, but there is much more to it than that. There are in fact quite radical financial advantages in it too. The VPP program is basically the equivalent of rake rebate and a player who makes it from Bronze Star to Supernova Elite will earn a staggering $103.9k from the rake rebate alone. That is pretty much the equivalent of around 62% rakeback. A player who’s already Supernova Elite and maintains his status in 2014 too, will earn ~78% rakeback, the equivalent of some $129.6k.
Play at PokerStars and work your way up the VIP ladder. There are some attractive benefits in it, even if you don’t reach Supernova Elite.
