German players have been dominating high profile live events lately, and the PPC Aruba World Championship’s $2.5k Main Event only came to confirm that apparent trend. Having waded through a large starting field and a tough final table in the end, Germany’s Robin Kazemieh took home the gold in this one, together with a top prize of $59.1k. The player he disposed of heads-up – after the two of them struck a deal – was Joe Ebanks. Ebanks was rewarded with $50.8k for his runner-up spot.
At the start of the final day of action, all eyes were on Joe Serock, the reigning champion of the event, who was mounting a solid title defense. Serock had re-bought several times, so he needed to finish at least 6th to turn a profit, which he did: he ended up in 3rd, right behind the heads-up guys, collecting $26k for his efforts.
The first victim of the day was Stephen Sindler, who stumbled on the second hand of the final table, running his Kd, Qd into David Tuthill’s A,Qo. Sindler’s reward was a rather paltry $5k.
Ryan Franklin followed him to the rail in 6th place, earning $7k. Sterling Savill was the next victim. Andy Seth was the first player to pick up a 5-figure prize, upon his exit in 6th place. David Tuthill followed him to the sidelines in 6th. Tuthill was bounced by the eventual winner, after running his pocket Js into the latter’s pocket Ks. That pot gave Kazemieh a huge chip lead, setting him up for the home run.
RJ Sullivan was the 4th place finisher, his reward an $18k prize.
Joe Serock’s title defense dreams came to an end in 3rd place. Ebanks was the one who bounced him with pocket 3s against Serock’s Q.10o.
The deal that the two top finishers struck was a final one, meaning that it left no money to play for, essentially ending the
poker tournament.
