River Poker Series – Maria Ho Wins $5k NL Holdem Event

The River Poker Series may be one of the largest and richest live poker Series you haven’t yet heard of: it has kicked off about 2 weeks ago and it has been running since, producing a few notable results. One such result was Maria Ho’s win in the $5k
NL Holdem event, which featured a guarantee of $300k.
She took down the top prize of $101.2k, only the third such 6-figure score of her poker career. Although the River Poker Series isn’t exactly a top-level live poker competition, Ho’s way to the top was everything but a walk in the park. She had quite a number of notables to deal with, even at the final table. Ari Engel was there, together with Jared Jaffe and Mario Silvestri. She bested Kattamuri Sudwakarar heads-up for the title. Sudwakarar’s second place was worth $75k. Engel finished 3rd for $50.2k and Jaffe fell 4th, picking up $34.2k for his efforts.
Silvestri finished 5th for 23.5k, followed by Clinton Baker in 6th place, who was rewarded with $15.7k.
In a post-victory interview, Ho said that she felt extremely pleased about being able to finally close a
poker tournament and to do it on her home turf (which is apparently the WinStar Casino in Thackerville, OK) made it even more special for her.
She also said she had had a gut-feeling about winning the event on day 2. She had come to the casino directly from Vanessa Selbst’s wedding, from New York, so she attributed her luck to that.
Ho has been an official spokesperson for the WinStar casino, and her win came on the tail of a second-place finish in another of the River Poker Series side events.
Ho’s biggest single win remains her 2011 WSOP $5k NL Holdem second place, which netted her $540k.
