SCOOP 2013 Update – Shawn Buchanan among Winners

The 2013 SCOOP has been roaring on for quite some time now, pushing all the other
online poker weekend majors out of its way. On Monday afternoon, 21 of the scheduled 44 events have reached their conclusions. Several “name” pros have already earned their SCOOP stripes – mostly in the high-tier events of course. Sami Kelopuro, Ana Marquez, Benny Spindler and Paul Volpe are all among those who have tasted 2013 SCOOP glory. During the last few days, the names of Shawn Buchanan and Steve Gross were added to that list, while Shaun Deeb – one of the most successful SCOOP players ever – was yet again denied victory.
Steve Gross’ win came in the $2.1k
NL Holdem 6-Max Turbo Super Knockout event (event #17h). Gross scored 13 KOs to take the top spot and the $106.5k prize. The truth of the matter is however that there was a 4-way deal at the top of the pops, which quite possibly denied Gross some extra prize-money. “iambest2” finished second for $97.5k with 9 Kos, followed by “gnetaren” in 3rd, with 10Kos and $98.1k to go with them. Haralabos Voulgaris finished 4th, followed by George Kapalas in 5th.
Shawn Buchanan’s moment of glory came in the $2.1k NL Holdem 10-max Shootout (event #18h), which saw only 198 players belly up to its virtual tables. Despite the relatively low participation, this event more than doubled the initial $150k guaranteed by
PokerStars. There weren’t any deals made in this tournament: Shawn Buchanan won it, taking down the full $118.8k share of the winner. He bested a player known as “JIZOINT” heads-up, who was rewarded with $79.2k for his efforts.
The deepest-finishing notable was Dan Smith, who took home $39.2k for his 4th place. Shaun Deeb made a nice deep run too, but his title bid ran ashore in 8th place.
