Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open – Day 2 Report

The Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open drew enormous player interest by offering a guarantee of $10 million for its Championship Event. Indeed, the starting field was so large that it took them several Day 1 flights and an entire Day 2 to play down to the final 100. Given the abundance of “name” pros in the field, it didn’t really come as a surprise that at the end of the Day 2 hostilities, it was poker pro Justin Bonomo who clinched the chip lead.
Bonomo finished with more than 2.7 million chips to his name. Most of his chips came courtesy of a late run, which saw him send two players packing during the last level of action.
Although his current position is indeed an enviable one, there’s more to the Justin Bonomo story. It seems that he bought in no fewer than five times, which means he needs to finish at least 63rd to make a profit.

Several of the November Niners bought into the event, but only Amir Lehavot managed to survive past the second day. He finished with a decent stack as well: 1.17 million chips, enough for 10th place. Lehavot got a significant part of his stack late in the day as well, when he locked horns with and eliminated Matt Waxman. Waxman was the one who pushed all-in on the turn with a top two pair, unaware that Lehavot had flopped a bottom set.
The player who started the day with the largest stack was Jesse Chinni. He managed to stay afloat as well, and in the end he had his ticked punched for Day 3 with 868k chips to his name.

Together with Bonomo, a whole slew of “name” players made it into Day 3 of the poker tournament: Mike Matusow will be back, together with Bryn Kenney, Joe Serock, Adam Levy and scores of others.
