Sergio Aido Wins UKIPT Galway High Roller

Thursday was the second and final day of the UKIPT Galway Poker Festival’s €2.2k High Roller. The event managed to play down to a winner as scheduled and the one who walked away with the top prize of €24.4k was Sergio Aido of Spain. Aido is by no means a newcomer to high-profile live
poker tournaments and deep runs in these events. Last October, he won the WPT National Series Barcelona, taking home $115.2k for his efforts. In March, he won the UKIPT’s £700 London event, taking home a $217.5k reward.
Kyle Maguire finished second in this High Roller, taking down a €17.4k prize.
Full Tilt Poker ambassador Dermot Blain finished 3rd for €11.8k.
Six players returned to the tables at the beginning of the day, safe in the knowledge that they had all earned a spot in the money the day before.
The UK’s Chris Day was the one who started the final day with the largest stack. Day failed to properly cash in on his early advantage and although he was not the first one to fall, his 4th place finish worth €6.98k was something of a disappointment nonetheless.
The first player to hit the rail was Niall Farrell, who was the official short-stack of the final table and who succumbed to Maguire when his pocket 10s fell to the latter’s pocket Qs. Farrell picked up €4.1k for his 6th place.
Jan Przysucha followed him to the rail in 5th place. Przysucha had been lurking around on a short-stack for a while before deciding to make his move with a K,10o against Aido’s pocket Qs. The flop fell 10, 3,4 and Przysucha was in trouble. The 5x and 7x which fell on the turn and the river sealed his tournament fate.
