Shaun Deeb Wins First WSOP Bracelet

Shaun Deeb descended upon the 2015 WSOP knowing that it would be his last full summer playing poker. Once online poker's wild-child, Deeb was never truly motivated to actually cement his poker legacy by winning some WSOP bling. He was always aiming to take down as much money as possible, but this year, he was on the hunt for a different prize and he came out much more motivated. Sure enough, in event #15, the $10k PL Holdem Championship event, his career has finally reached its culmination. He took down his first-ever bracelet, and some $318.8k to go with it.
To get there, he bested a starting field of 128 players. Given the buy-in size and the "weight" of the event, it was no surprise that the starting field was indeed extremely pro-heavy. The final table was a stacked one as well. According to Deeb, it should be declared "one of the toughest final tables ever assembled".

The winner of last year's Big Dance, Greg Merson was there in the final stretch, as was Paul Volpe, Jason Koon, Dario Sammartino and Sam Stein. Despite the presence of all those heavy-weights, the final table turned out to be a fun affair. Deeb said he had had fun pocketing the gold and that he hoped the tournament would return next year, so he could mount a title defense.
The player Deeb defeated heads-up for the title was Paul Volpe, so he never had it easy, not even for the last few hands he played. In 2012, Deeb made the final table of this same event. Though he hopes to play in it next year too, there are voices out there calling for the removal of the game of PL Holdem from the WSOP schedule.
