Something’s Astir iGaming-wise in New Jersey

The cause of legal and regulated online gambling and poker has found a staunch albeit oft-over-enthusiastic and optimistic supporter in New Jersey State Sen. Raymond Lesniak. Indeed, over the course of the legal war fought for the right of
online poker and online gambling to exist within a legally defined framework in the Garden State, Lesniak has often underestimated the hurdles the effort needed to overcome, projecting a much too bright and early future for the games in his state. This past February however, he predicted that something would become of legalized online poker and online gambling by November, and by golly it now looks like he has indeed nailed this one. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement has notified casinos within the state that on November 26, 2013, online gambling would go live within their legal jurisdiction.
Needless to say, Lesniak, who has been behind the effort full weight from the very beginning, is extremely delighted to see what basically amounts to his brainchild finally come to fruition. He said that for him, November 26 represented not only a “mission complete” moment but also the start of a potential New Jersey Internet gaming dynasty that he had so long envisioned.
Together with the announcement regarding the launch date of legal Internet gaming, the New Jersey division of gaming enforcement has also released a draft of the regulations which have been slightly tweaked compared to the ones released back in June. The updated regulations have addressed two of the main concerns expressed back in June by Poker Players Alliance director John Pappas. Thus, the log-in process deemed to intricate and tedious has been simplified, so players now only have to provide one “strong authentication” (like an additional password, answering a security question, an electronic token etc), on top of the basic password/username combination.
Accounts inactive for a year will still be considered dormant, but their owners will now be warned before the funds from the accounts are seized.
