The final stage of the
WSOP-C’s Main Event unraveled on Tuesday night at Harvey's Lake Tahoe. Nine players returned to the tables with hopes of securing the title but in the end obviously only one would rejoice. The player to show off the championship ring from behind a huge castle of poker chips, smiling broadly, was Stan Quinn, whose grin was probably caused by the $86,789 he picked up for his win.
By making it all the way, Quinn survived an initial starting field of 246 players over three days of poker action.
The first elimination of the final day came about half an hour into the action, when a previously crippled Joe Mongkol-ua-aree bowed out holding an A,Q against Traylor’s 8,9 on a board which gave Traylor a straight for the win.
Grant Hillman busted out in 8th place about half an hour later. Hillman shoved all in on the flop which gave him a straight and a flush draw, only to be called by Traylor who had top pair.
The next elimination, Donna Jetter’s, took considerably longer. Jetter fell to Traylor too.
The following two eliminations would be Traylor’s handiwork too. Ned Mantua and Drew Caseri were the victims, hitting the rail in sixth and fifth places respectively.
Dan Black, the first day’s chip leader, found the path to the rail as well, courtesy of… you’ve guessed it, Michael Traylor. Traylor flopped a straight this time to best Black’s top pair and straight draw.
Three handed play was all she wrote for Traylor though. Quinn got the better of him in several key hands, and he eventually bounced him on an A,9 vs 10,4 matchup.
John McNeilly, having already outdone his finish of last year, only lasted for a couple of hands heads up against Quinn. The final hand saw Quinn’s pocket jacks dispose of McNeilly's 8,7o.
