Steve O’Dwyer Breaks Into GPI Top 10

The Global Poker Index has made it its mission to create and to publish a list of the best live poker tournament players in the world, based on a set of factors used to quantify their performance on a regular basis. Every week, there are players moving up and down, and because the live tournament scene is extremely busy, the top 300 sees quite a few changes week after week.
This week, the biggest mover in the top 10 was Steve O’Dwyer, who climbed 4 places from 12th right into 8th. O’Dwyer who has 2662.24 points, made the final table of the EPT’s London Main Event, earning quite a bit of GPI credit for that accomplishment. He eventually finished 5th in the tournament, taking home a $219.7k prize. Although he’s ranked 4th in the US, O’Dwyer is still far off his record high of second, which he reached in June 2012.

Other players who climbed in the GPI top 10 were David Sands, Jason Mercier and Bertrand Grospellier. Sands climbed 3 places right into 7th, while Mercier and Grospellier climbed one spot each. Sands’ upward move occurred on account of his WPT Jacksonville Open cash finish and the second place he scored in the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown High Roller.
Several new players made their way into the GPI top 300 for the first time. Leading the newbie pack was Adam Levy, who’s currently sitting in 211th place. Jim Collopy has made news lately every step of the way, finishing deep and winning various live events left and right. He entered the top 300 in 230th place as a result of his consistency. David Diaz is among the new entrants as well: he is 249th. Nam Le entered the top 300 in 298th place.
